COMMON QUESTIONS
COMMON QUESTIONS
Where is your office located?
563 Castro Street, San Francisco, CA 94114
It’s in the heart of the Castro neighborhood, between 18th and 19th streets.
Do you offer video or in-person sessions?
I provide both in-person sessions at my office at 563 Castro Street in San Francisco.
Using a secure video platform, remote sessions are available to California residents who are physically present in the state during the session.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes and start at the top of the hour.
What are your hours?
I’m available for sessions from Monday to Friday, starting at 8:00 AM. The last session of the day starts at 3:00 PM, except on Fridays when I’m not available in the afternoon.
If you prefer an in-person session, those are offered on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings.
How often will we meet?
Most people like having a set appointment time. The frequency can vary from several times per week to every other week. If you are unable to schedule a regular appointment at least every other week, we can schedule each session whenever there is availability.
The most important thing is that we find a schedule to suit your needs, and I will try to work with you on this.
Do you take insurance?
I currently accept United Healthcare/Optum and Aetna insurance and am able to submit your claims directly to these two insurers.
If you want to use other insurance benefits, we can discuss your options. Many insurance plans allow people to submit claims and receive reimbursement. You would just need to make sure you have out-of-network benefits.
If you have benefits through a different insurance carrier, I can provide you with a statement. The statement would contain all the required codes you’d need to send to your insurance company.
What is your fee?
The fee is $275 per session.
What forms of payment do you accept? Can I use my FSA or HSA account?
I accept standard credit cards and credit cards through FSA and HSA accounts.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least two full business days of advance notice if you need to cancel a session. If you’re not able to let me know about a cancellation at least two full business days in advance, you’ll be charged the full fee.
How do I set up an initial appointment?
Feel free to drop me a message on my secure voicemail anytime, day or night. Alternatively, you can email me to schedule a complimentary 15-minute phone call to discuss your needs and answer your questions. Then, if you’d like, we can take the next step and schedule an initial consultation session.
What types of clients do you work with?
I offer individual psychotherapy and psychoanalysis for adults.
With that said, I enjoy working with a wide variety of people.
It’s probably pretty evident that I have lots of experience working with people who identify with the LGBTQIA+ communities.
But many times, we as individuals don’t actually fit into specific categories – and that’s great!
Therapy should not try to push you into a specific category. Instead, it should help you find where you are and empower you to live your life fully.
Do you work with couples or families?
No, I focus my work on individual therapy. Of course, most people will need to explore their close relationships as part of their individual therapy.
What actually happens in sessions?
A lot of it depends on your needs.
There’s not a “one size fits all” model in this work.
At the start of each session, I try to listen carefully to where things are in your inner world. It usually doesn’t take very long for things to get moving.
There are situations when it might help to have “homework” between sessions. Homework is something you would do outside of the session. Of course, it’s not graded, and in fact, complete “non-compliance” can sometimes be just as helpful. Because our goal is to find and implement the tools that assist in your journey of growth.
You’re a unique person, so your therapy should be just as unique.
What is your training and experience?
I’ve been fortunate to have numerous exciting educational opportunities. In my undergraduate years, I had the chance to delve into both the sciences and the humanities. Then came medical school, where I relished every moment of my clinical rotations, exploring fields like medicine, surgery, pediatrics, OB/GYN, sports medicine, family practice, neurology, and psychiatry.
My journey continued with psychiatry residency training, where I gained valuable experience in various therapeutic approaches, such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, family and couples’ therapy, group therapy, biofeedback, and meditation. I studied the complexities of psychopharmacology and the intricacies of community psychiatry, inpatient, and outpatient mental health care.
But the learning didn’t stop there. After establishing my private practice, I pursued extended training in psychoanalysis. This intensive phase included classroom education, supervised psychoanalytic cases, and even my own personal psychoanalysis.
Throughout my life, a prevailing theme has been my profound love for learning new things. Being a psychotherapist is a perfect fit for me because it offers an endless opportunity for discovery. Every hour of each day is a chance to explore and grow. Each session is like solving a new puzzle. We work together to lay out the pieces, sort them, and creatively put them together in fresh and meaningful ways.
I’m genuinely excited about the prospect of learning alongside you. And together, we’ll embark on a journey to uncover new pathways for you to create a better life for yourself.
